here it is in all its glory... works like a charm! Pretty easy machine to hackintosh, though the 320W power supply is proprietary. There isn’t any 6-pin GPU power ... Stuck with PCIe powered video cards, but the GTX745 handles Dolphin emulation easily. Ethernet, sound, USB 3.0 ports, sleep, video all work perfectly. If anyone wants a cheap hackintosh on a budget you can pick up HP 8300s all day long for under $150 easily, even one with an
i7 3770
with 8GB RAM.
Whittling the fleet down to 3, main desktop + laptop + this system. Just one machine left to sell... this HP is quite versatile and will be used as a 2nd machine/retrobox/OS X playground. It has a LOT of older software and VMs/emulators that have: Macintosh System 7.5.5, 9.something, Windows 98SE, 2000, MS-DOS, and
Windows 3.11. Slew of soundfonts as well for MIDI.

I think 1050ti’s can run without external power if you ever need an upgrade

This computer makes a good Hackintosh, if you’re so inclined. I’ve done a couple using a few different versions of OS X from El Capitan to High Sierra, and my mentor has even run Mojave on one, albeit without the full features of the video card . They’re solid workhorses, as long as you can get around all of the proprietary parts; CPU fan and power supply are the two biggies . I tried an adapter to add a standard ATX power supply, but I don’t know if that’s what caused my first motherboard to let out the magic smoke. Thankfully the i7, 32GB of RAM, SSDs and 1080 were unaffected, but it did make me think twice about about pushing the boundaries like I did previously when I installed a replacement mobo.
I did buy another, this time an i5 machine, and kept the stock power supply. I’m still using the old power-hungry GTX 670, but as I did originally, it’s being run off of a smaller, secondary power supply. There’s a small circuit board that senses when the main system boots up and fires up the secondary power supply. It doesn’t make for a very clean installation, but it is safe, functional and reliable.

Hmm, not bad. Probably not far off from what I’m currently running, performance wise.

Yeah, 1050Tis and RX560s need no PCI-E power connector. There’s a r umor that AMD is planning on releasing a mid-range card with 1060 performance that won’t need a six-pin early next year, but who knows if that’s true. You can of course use 4- pin to 6-pin adapters, but a 320W power supply probably doesn’t have the juice to feed a 150W card, regardless of how it is delivered, especially with an i7 in there as well.

I have one of these running X penology and acting like a Synology SAN. It is where my BlueIris server saves all the security c amera footage.
These older HP towers are great. Standard ATX components, easy to work on and will probably run until the apocalypse causes them to lose power.

yeah they seem bulletproof and out of the 3 big business PC lines, elites definitely are better than optiplexes and thinkcentres

Dell XPS 435. Core i7 920, 9 GB of ram (triple channel memory :P ), an intel 240 GB solid state drive for the main drive, then a pair of WD 500 GB spinning drives and a tiny laptop 250 GB drive from an old netbook. Graphics card is a Radeon 5770.
Being the parent of 2 kids (very soon to be 3), it’s not like I have a lot of time to game. But having 3 monitors is still really nice.
